For Crying Out Loud – Compositions of the 1960s and 70s for voice with and without tape or electronics

Riverstown Hall, South Campus (Maynooth University, Ireland)

The voice is our most primal and immediate means of expression. It is a bridge between everyday life and high culture, because whether we are ordering a pizza in a restaurant or singing on the opera stage (to paraphrase the pioneer of vocal music Cathy Berberian), it is always the same organ. For Crying Out Loud presents classics of the modern vocal repertoire as well as lesser-known works by Luciano Berio, John Cage, Luc Ferrari, and Luigi Nono, in which the human voice—in all its diversity—takes center stage.

All presented compositions are closely connected to Anne-May’s research activities and will be further illuminated from this perspective during the concert.
